Our client appealed to us to design a "striking and memorable" building in the Chinatown Haymarket precinct of Sydney’s CBD. The site is surrounded by buildings on three sides and has two significant heritage items. Our design strategy is to create a significant and symbolic city high-rise tower broken into two tower forms acknowledging the presence of the interesting and character-filled existing buildings on site.
Bureau of Urban Architecture have designed the new towers to echo the architectural values we perceive in the existing heritage buildings and we aspire for the end result to become a highly detailed and sophisticated built relationship and dialogue between new and old. The building has a complex program with a number of uses, such as; retail, commercial, church, hotel and apartments, and the resultant scheme and development will be an exuberant addition to the bustling precinct it is located within.
